The first rule of this book club:
You don’t talk about book club.

Lyssa Kay Adams read her first romance novel in eighth grade after swiping one from her grandmother’s book shelf and was hooked forever. After a nearly 20-year career as a journalist, her dreams of writing and publishing her own HEAs came true in 2015 with the release of her first novel, Seventh Inning Heat, followed by the RITA-nominated novella, Wild in Rio. Today, she writes full-time from her home in Michigan with a pesky, fluffy K9 assistant named Domino who spends most of his day snoring on her desk (that is, when he’s not burying things around the house).
The Bromance Book Club really hit the spot! It got it all; from the cover to the blurb and that story just melt my heart!
A story about a couple whose marriage was falling apart, almost reaching the end of their couple, will learn how to love each other again without any pretense.
But before that, please welcome the book club. The one the men shouldn’t be talking about. Gavin didn’t know how his friends would come to his rescue and helping him to win his wife back… by reading romance novels.
We’re going to see how deep Gavin and Thea’s issues were, how it withers away and slowing putting more space between them. As a couple and individuals they kinda lost their way, when resentment and anger took over.
I found the story interesting, talking about big athletes who were a bit lost when it came to their women, teaming up and helping each other through hard times with this hint of humor and sarcasm. And sometimes so hilarious and ridiculous but terribly endearing.
I was totally hooked, flipping pages and losing track of time. The characters both frustrated the hell out of me sometimes. We’re going to understand the two sides of the story and Gavin was going to climb a mountain, to enhance his efforts by addressing the priorities, understanding little by little why they both stop fighting for each other, losing that spark somehow.
Love was still there through, and what about some romance novels to bring the heat and win the woman of his life back? I appreciated the parallelism with the characters and how fiction really hit home in some ways. Straight to the guts. They didn’t want to go back where they used to be but finding their right place, happy together. They fought dirty at times, pushed hard but loved harder. A constant work.
I was moved by this couple and their daughters, people who aren’t perfect and a great example of how appearances can be deceiving. With Gavin’s demanding career and Thea’s being at home most of the time taking care of her family by herself, we could see the struggles and hardships they had to overcome; but they learned to do it together instead of alone like they used to. It’s going to be a long way to learn from their past mistakes and unsaid things but once they broke down a few barriers, they were just phenomenal. The fire they make…
I was definitely rooting for Gavin and Thea, falling in love with their story and utterly charmed by the background characters. It was such an amazing first installment in the series, revealing more interesting characters. I swooned, I laughed so many times I lost count and the emotionally charged moments resonated with me. I think I’m going to have a blast with book number two and I can’t wait to read more stories about The Bromance Book Club. Book.Hangover.Alert!!
