Penny Reid is the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Best Selling Author of the Winston Brothers, Knitting in the City, Rugby, and Hypothesis series. Color me intrigued… I I haven’t thought that I would read one day a glimpse of the Winstons’ childhood, especially focusing on Billy. But sill, I got it. 

If you haven’t read the story of the other members of this family, you definitely want to read all of them.

This story was heartbreakingly beautiful. This story about two young and scarred souls who haven’t had the best fathers, but after all they’ve been through, became stronger. Their past experiences have made them tougher and also a bit harder than other teenagers. A gap that no one would understand. Unless you met someone who could almost see you right through your armor.

Billy and Scarlet took my breath away, watching them creating that strong bond but also fragile, threatened to be broken. 

I adored reading their POV, from anger to joy, from that selflessness they had for their loved ones, protecting them from the « bad side » of this world and mostly their innocence, something they lost so long ago.

Even if I have read the other books and I knew a bit of what they became, reading that moment of their lives was definitely crucial to understand their older versions and how through the years, especially Billy turned out to be the man he is today.

I went through so many emotions at one, so thank you Penny Reid for giving us that piece, almost wanting to make readers cry and smile throughout the story. There were triggers but still it didn’t stop me from reading the story until the end. I can’t wait to read the next one, that I’m sure about that, would be explosive, the outcome of Billy and Scarlet’s emotional journey. They really deserve something great and I’m eager to read it. I’m ready for the emotional roller coaster coming.
