When I started reading Lies by Kylie Scott, I was already hooked by this explosive beginning. A woman who had no idea about how wrong she was about her fiancé, Thom. It needed one break-up to discover many things she never would have thought of. From boring fiancé to operative agent, there was one tiny line. And this time, no more lies.
A storyline growing at a rapid tempo that would perfectly fit like a movie, with a strong hint of romance and humor. Betty has never expected to see her planned and boring life to literally implode like that. She wanted to break up with Thom and finally find her confidence back. He was never at home, too busy for business trips and when they were together… no sparks or anything. Damn she was just trying to get her life back on track.
I guess that being captured and finding that the life she has built with him was just a cover… disrupting and putting into perspective her feelings for that man. I was very curious about Thom, because of this image she had about him. Being with someone without really knowing him. He was trained to work under pressure, to execute and fighting the bad guys when needed. For a bad-ass guy, he couldn’t hide his feelings when Betty was threatened. Something he didn’t have to worry about until now.
Talk about alpha, uber protective man when it came to her. Messing totally with betty’s head, in a very good way. Once his cover was blown, he didn’t hide his feelings at all, and well she was to catch up full speed with this version of Thom, more passionate, intense and so sexy. How is it possible to tell true from false when lying was all their life?
I enjoyed reading their journey and seeing finally that love blossom. In spite of all the danger and the risk of being together, Betty managed to adjust quickly and showing that together they could be stronger;
Thom was exploiting all the intel he had about her but not in the right way. Since he wasn’t really relationship material before, he did everything wrong from the beginning. She made him work for it. Not being intimidated by him at all. I adored that.
It was catchy, punchy and very entertaining! A quick read that I enjoyed from the beginning until the end.
