The Truth About Lies (The Truth Duet, #1)

Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife. And I was helpless to save her.

Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories.

Until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.

Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.

Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.

Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her, either.

But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

I didn’t know how long I was holding my breath. The Truth About Lies totally blew my mind. I knew that I was going into something powerful and emotional and Aly Martinez had exceeded my expectations, leaving speechless and breathless.

And oh my if I didn’t like it. I loved it so freaking much.

A story about two tortured and tormented souls who found each other in the most darkest place, looking for revenge and escape. To be freed from all the darkness. To find peace one day even if it had to leave them dry, with no turning back.

There was this attraction, an intense connection between the main characters, (Penn and Cora) that wasn’t impossible to ignore. I couldn’t put it down.

I was enthralled, totally captivated by their journey.

Cora was living in a shit hole and Penn was trapped into hell, and somehow they met in the middle where everything was peaceful, a perfect mess and a fire that couldn’t be tamed. It was a story of tragic events, where their pasts collided with the present.

Penn was kinda anti-hero, with a mean to an end, ready to crush everything to find peace until Cora, until this moment when they met. A complex and intriguing man whose heart been taken away by this selfless woman, who took care of everyone but haven’t been the one that someone should care about.

In spite of the heavy side of the storyline, I could feel the beacon of hope and safety in a dangerous world, when you had to live every day with the threat of losing everything. Like happiness didn’t exist but when I read about these two, I hoped for better days, to hold on that feeling and never letting go.

As the story unfolds, all the fragmented and broken pieces of their souls, a progressive tangling brought everything at its place, terribly right but also so wrong. When the lies became more than words, when the truth has always a way to come out. An inevitable ending.

I won’t say anything about the storyline because that’s a thing readers have to experience to get the whole essence of Penn and Cora’s destiny. It was mesmerizing and beautiful. They just took my breath away, making my heart race, giving me the butterflies and the freaking chills.

Now, I am eager to read the next one, and I’m sure it’s going to make me fall in love again with the characters. I’m still trying to process my thoughts after that emotional rollercoaster. I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready but I want more. I want everything.

If you’re looking for a story that you can melt your heart, when the characters are leading to a path when they could crash and burn, showing a magnificent story, with an intense and passionate connection, this one’s for you. Totally a winner to me.
