“Oh my god. Who is that?”

I get asked this question a lot.

“Oh him?” I reply. “That’s just Ian.”

Just Ian is the biggest understatement of the century. Just the Mona Lisa. Just the Taj Mahal. Just Ian, with his boring ol’ washboard abs and dime-a-dozen dimpled smile.

Just Ian is…just my best friend.

We’re extremely close, stuck so deep inside a Jim-and-Pam-style friendzone everyone at work assumes we’re a couple—that is until one day, word spreads through the teacher’s lounge that he’s single. Fair game. Suddenly, it’s open season on Ian.

He should be reveling in all the newfound attention, but to our mutual surprise, the only attention he seems to want is mine.

He’s turning our formerly innocent nightly chats into X-rated phone calls. Our playful banter sports a new, dangerous edge.

I want to assume he’s playing a prank on me, just pushing my buttons like always—but when Ian lifts me onto the desk in my classroom and slides his hands up my skirt, he doesn’t leave a lot of room for confusion.

I’m a little scared of things going south, of losing my best friend because I can’t keep my hands to myself. So, I’m just going to back away and not return this earth-shattering kiss—oh who am I kidding?!

Goodbye Ian, ol’ buddy, ol’ pal!

Helloooo mister not so nice guy.

I have a soft spot for R.S. Grey’s romantic comedy. How about two best friends who might be more than sharing just a friendship? And the not so nice guy… that’s “just Ian”, right… I couldn’t be fooled by this one, because well it was definitely more than « just Ian »

They put a huge smile on my face, I was entertained by this feel good vibes emanating from this story, with a hint of craziness. I adored the characters’ inner conversations, the naturalness of their relationship, with this constant flirty side that couldn’t trick anyone. I connected instantly with them, colorful characters who fought hard for their chemistry, something that everyone could see.

Living into their perfect bubble, this comfort zone until one answer changed the balance they had. I adored this twist into their story that somehow pushed them out of this comfort place, messing things up for sure, but it was the push these need needed, surrounded by crazy supporting characters.

Some the situations were definitely hilarious and I was laughing so hard about their antics. Sam was the one who needed the push, Ian was just the one willing to cross the line and to let her finally see what they denied for years.

I appreciated their bond, a beautiful friendship that one would wanted to ruin but when there’s a deeper connection, you had to explore it, right? Even if it seemed utterly insane at times, because these two didn’t do things in a conventional way, I’ve caught up by the craziness in the air, so spontaneous. I had such a great time reading their story.

Ian made me swoon so many times I lost count, Sam was quite the firecracker, keeping on his toes. When she was freaking out, he was one the one to hold her hand. Damn these two were so cute and endearing, also making a room growing hotter by the minute when they let their feelings override.

It was a story that put in a good mood from the beginning. A great blend of sweetness, sexiness and humour. The kind of romantic comedy I love to read. Refreshing and fun.
