A taboo relationship…steamy passion…and secrets that can ruin everything.
Single father Gabriel Baystock is rich and powerful, educated and handsome – and helpless when it comes to ensuring his son Michael recovers fully from a childhood cancer. He’ll do anything, even hire award-winning child therapist Shai Bonaventura.
Shai is drawn to brooding, sexy Gabriel, and while she falls in love with the little boy she’s hired to help, she loses her heart to his father. Their powerful chemistry is off the charts hot, and Shai thinks he might be the one to help heal her own demons, even if it means crossing professional boundaries.
But when old secrets from Shai’s past are revealed, it’s not clear if their fragile relationship can survive the harsh reality of the real world…or whether they have the courage to fight for what they really need?
A Handful of Fire is a full-length stand-alone romance (about 80K words) with an HEA. It’s a contemporary love story with a high heat level and gorgeous, poetic prose.

Emotional and beautifully written! A Handful of Fire is a must read, I was swept away, a sweet romantic love story that would break and melt your heart, all wrapped up with a soul-searching vibe, delivering a beautiful message of strength and courage.
This was my first book from Alexis Alvarez, and oh my I think I have a crush on this author. All the freaking feels. A taboo relationship, between a child therapist and her father’s patient. And so much more.
From the blurb, you can imagine how emotional that story will be. It was an incredible journey, with relevant psychological aspects, reading about shattering souls, loss, and especially healing. It intrigued me. Heartbreaking and Heartwarming. My emotions were all over the place.
Shai is a renowned child therapist, she had scars that haven’t healed yet. A fixer that needed fixing. Her salvation was to help children and she did it great. The special touch that could convince the reticent ones. Like she did with Gabriel. Healed his son’s progressively and also his heart and soul. Enthusiastic, solar and very patient, capable to soothe, to win over people.
Gabriel … hot and broody. Dark and cold-hearted. Emotionally detached when it comes to relationship. He and his boy, Michael, won me over. Literally. What didn’t help first is their crazy and undeniable chemistry, almost palpable. The heart wants what it wants and as the story unfold, even of that fantastic and natural relationship (of course mind-blowing) is going to explode, not in a great way.
My special mention goes to Michael. Not because he is a kid but about his vision of life, something innocent but also so mature, with an depicting reality, filled with so much truth. My heart was melting with that special boy.
A Handful of Fire is the kind of book that filled your heart with so many emotions, from laughter to sadness, almost leaving the reader heartbroken. That kind of book that will heal your heart at the same time as the characters; the one that made you live the story with all your heart. Don’t be afraid of the journey, so worth the read. This book got it all; from the storyline to the characters, the kind of perfectly imperfect.
