She was my nightmare. Every time I closed my eyes, I watched her fall into that inferno. Over and over, I failed to save her.
I hadn’t been able to reach her, and the guilt only burned hotter over time. Four years later, I was the unreachable one.
Heroes aren’t always saints. Sometimes, we’re nothing more than jaded sinners driven by sleepless nights and hearts full of darkness.
And then I met her. She was a dreamer who managed to soothe my scars and heal my wounds.
But, as the flames closed in around us, I feared I wasn’t the right man to save her. That is until I realized she was the one woman I’d burn the world down to protect.
About the Author
Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, Aly Martinez is a stay-at-home mom to four crazy kids under the age of five- including a set of twins. Currently living in South Carolina, she passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a glass of wine at her side.
One night. That’s all it takes to bond Rhion and Jude. One terrible tragedy shattered their lives, turning into a nightmare.
I was incredibly surprised by the blunt and poetic tone of the book. Flawed and tortured characters, they won me over.
Jude was the alpha, kind of possessive guy with a big heart. He never thought that one night would haunted him, burning with such guilt for scars he made to a woman. I really like how straightforward, passionate and intense he was when it came to the one he loved. This fierceness to protect them, to go for what he wanted. Le sigh … Jude you stole my heart!
Rhion was a refreshing character for sure. A survivor who was deeply affected by shadows of her past, eating her slowly each day, but always thinking about this man who saved and stole her heart years ago. I loved to unravel every part of her, as the story unfolds, her way back to life was spectacular. From the darkness to the lightness, thanks to Jude. A colorful character that needed to shine.
Damn my heart, I was overwhelmed by all these emotions, switching to anger, guilt, regrets but most of all a way back to life and a chance at love together. Even with all the issues and heavy luggage they had, the way they worked things out was amazing, always honest maybe at times painful. Life is not always a fairytale. These two proved how much it was worth it, when you fought for it. Communication was definitely the key. Accepting each other with every fiber of their being, flaws and all.
Did I have to talk about the building sexual and scorching tension? Oh my yes. A delightful and sinfully hot romance with a hint of sweetness. I lost count about how many times I swooned over Jude’s declaration of love. He was not perfect just real. A man who was working to be worth of his woman.
Two people with deep scars who found in each other the one that could heal their broken souls. One night that changed everything for the worse but in a way bring them back to life.
It was an amazing story about love, acceptance and second chances. A great first installment in The Guardian Protection series and I can’t wait to read more about them.
