What the hell do I know about raising a baby? Nothing. Not a goddamn thing. Yet here I am, the sole guardian of my niece. I’d be lost if it weren’t for Katherine, the beautiful girl who seems to have all the answers. Katherine, who’s slowly finding her way into my cynical heart.
I keep reminding myself that I can’t fall for someone when we don’t have a future. But telling myself this lie and believing it are two different things.
When Brady shows up on a Harley, looking like an avenging angel—six feet, three inches of chiseled muscle, eyes the color of wild sage, and sun-kissed skin emblazoned with tattoos—I’m not sure if I should fall at his feet or run like hell. Because if I tell him what happened the night his family died, he might hate me. What I don’t count on are the nights we spend together trying to forget the heartache that brought us here. I promise him it won’t mean anything, that I won’t fall in love.
I shouldn’t make promises I can’t keep.
is an adult contemporary romance/spinoff featuring a character from The
Dearest Series, but it can be read as a complete standalone.
Lex writes adult novels, the sexy kind with lotsa angst, a whole lotta kissing, and the hot happily ever afters. When she’s not writing, she lives a parallel life as an English teacher. She loves printing black and white photos, listening to music on vinyl, and getting lost in a great book. Bitten by wanderlust, she’s lived all over the country but currently resides in the City of Angels with her husband and twin daughters.
I say it out loud! I freaking love Lex Martin and her ability to write stories that making me fall in love at first sight with the characters. And the story, dammit, about two lost people reunited by tragedy and finding themselves on the way? Just gut-wrenching and beautiful with his melancholic mood that kept me captivated until the end.
Brady is my kind of guy, fun, sexy and very intense. The tattoos is a plus, but I have to mention it! Anyway, he is a great friend and very close to his family. Works hard but without a really meaning to life when he had to help his family. Estranged to his baby brother when he decided to throw everything away for love, Brady’s rational side was buying it until a tragedy happened. His brother died without a chance to make amends. Financially short by helping his family plus all his debts, he had to take care to his brother and his wife’s farm. But the biggest surprise is the little girl he had to care of now.
How could he fit in this life, far from the city, so far away from everything he knew?
One little girl is a surprise but the best friend Katherine? Brady didn’t realise what’s gonna hit him! The kind and so selfless woman who put his friends need first. Always too much. When she needed her escape, her best friend Melissa and her husband were here to help her.
She was at this moment in her life when had this balance and in one second turned into a nightmare. Lex, I had to tell you I was scared by all these huge guilt Katherine felt, almost holding my breath. If you want to know all of it, you have to read it guys!
I really loved the intimacy and very cozy atmosphere around Brady, Katherine and little Isabella, like we had time to see all the facets to these amazing characters, to feel the construction of of their relationship.
Being themselves without shame, to be brave in their lives and face their fears and scars, together. As friends but mostly as a family.
Something electrifying and sizzling with an undeniable chemistry. It can’t be a Lex Martin’s novel without some steamy action that would make you moist, because Brady and Katherine … Oh la la.
This book really moved me though the characters’ issues, from their happiness to their battles and insecurities. Really talked to me. I was drawn to this incredible pull between the two of them. The plus? To see how Brady finally fit into this world, to see his assumptions breaking down thanks to the two marvelous women in his life. When everything would be settled and each one is gonna be back to their own lives, it’s not a matter of time before broken hearts. Brady and Katherine were playing with the fire. But so worth it!
The only little down side in the storyline was about Katherine’s revelation about Brady’s brother accident, it was a little too long for me, a little bit drawn-out. I won’t reveal much but hopefully the author managed to catch up after.
I wasn’t expecting this for Brady and It was so much better. I loved how challenging this book was and that you had to work for it. It was emotionally charged, erotically loaded (trust me it was hot!), with a hint of sweetness and great banter. You can’t go wrong with this book! Book crush alert!
