She can’t stand them.
Refuses to be one.
Tessa Brooks is strong-willed, sassy, and determined, on the brink of dominating in the testosterone-fueled sport of horse racing. She’s spent her life avoiding the norm, staying true to herself to achieve her ultimate goals.
Her relationship with Jace Hitchen, her brother’s best friend, just might be the biggest cliche of all. Over the years, he’s been her protector, her annoyance, her confidante, her crush. But giving in to what she’s really wanted for the last ten years could be the very thing that destroys everything she’s worked for and wanted. Can Tessa achieve her dreams for the future, but still hold on to the past?
I am not familiar with jockeys and the author managed to keep captivated all along the story, I was transported into this world. I really loved the story behind it, where a love story was told between her and Jace, his brother’s best friend.
Throughout the years, we saw growing their love, a beautiful story that spanned decades.
Written it this way was a really a very smart move, understanding Tessa’s aspirations, her relationship with her family but also how Jace was struggling with his feelings. She was off limits, even if they weren’t blood related. Every interaction, touch were increasing the intensity of their feelings through the years and we can feel it all, this electrifying and undeniable pull.
Tessa is woman who wanted to have her place and live her dream as a jockey. She was craving for racing, constantly pushing her limits, to exhaustion. She’s stubborn and fierce, a little women so strong. She’s not shy at all, perfectly at ease with people. Her weakness : Jace, who was hitting all her buttons, igniting in his path fire … in her body! She has definitely naughty thoughts when it comes to him, but who can blame this woman?
She loved him since she was a kid and waiting for Jace to open his eyes, to see that she wasn’t a kid anymore.
She made a promise to her big brother, and every day was reminding her to be the best and to live the dream the fullest.
Jace, … her brother’s best friend and confidant, and being with her family since they were kids. Even if they grew up together, and their banter seemed at the beginning to a brother – sister relationship, Jace was developing more than brotherhood feelings. Watching the little girl growing into a beautiful woman.
I really appreciated his down to earth side, confident, unless he has to reveal his feelings for her, afraid to ruin everything. But when he made up his mind … Just sweet and romantic!
He’s keeping Tessa on her toes, always watching after her but was so damn scared of her lifestyle, to see her hurt. This guy was a keeper, really, even if he couldn’t fully understand Tessa’s decisions when it comes to her career.
Tessa’s willingness to be strong and not needing Jace to complete her was interesting, she was his equal. Two of them were definitely a magnificent whole. She wanted someone to stand by her side and cheer her on. Her career was an important issue for Jace, they were meant to be for sure, but he had to embrace all of her, not to separate the woman he knew and the one she become. The dual POV was a roller coaster of emotion and I was living vicariously through their story.
When the line between friends is crossed, Tessa is consumed by this man, trying to find a balance in her life. Her career didn’t give her time to date or to have a relationship. She thought she couldn’t have it all and with Jace not understanding her choices sometimes, it was too hard.
How could she managed to have it all?
The characters and plot were well-developed, CM Foss can write about families and the links she builds were just incredible.
The structure of Jock was just well wounded, I laugh, I cried, Jace made me swoon and melt my heart, and Tessa, was just an inspiring character. I couldn’t put it down : sweet, funny, sad at times, with a hint of spice and hotness, this book was just a hit!
I have just one request : I really hope that Drew and Cooper would have their story!!!
