I was always the life of the party, the happy one.
Until Preston killed my soul.
When he came into my life, he destroyed me. I was a shell of my former self, pretending to be fine while wishing I wouldn’t wake up the next day. I never dreamed my best friend would come back into my life…and bring Brad Nicholson with her.
I never dreamed the homicide detective with the cocky attitude could show me my worth again. He could show me that my life could be amazing every day.
Until the day he found out about my past with Preston. Then, I was sure he’d see the real Miranda and ditch me for good.

From a young age, I made a decision.
I knew what I wanted to do with my life and from that point on, my work molded me. Everything became routine. Casual. Until Mackenzie walked into my life, bringing her best friend, Miranda, with her.
From the first moment I saw Miranda, I knew she could be someone special. I didn’t have time for relationships, but she was different. She was a piece of the puzzle that could be missing. But she was broken, I could see that. And all I wanted to do was turn her into the girl I knew she really was beneath her perfectly placed mask.

The door slowly opened and my heart stuttered. Brad slowly crept into my room, locking eyes with me. What in the hell is he doing here? The urge to slap the shit out of him was strong, but I somehow refrained.
“Um, hi,” he whispered, sounding nervous. Too shocked and confused, I just stared at him.
“Can I come in?”
I nodded and sat up further on my bed. “What…what are you doing here?” I asked, finally finding my words.
He walked to the foot of the bed and sat down on the side. Handing me a bag, he said, “I hope you don’t mind your roommate letting me in. It’s your birthday and I wanted to give you your gift.”
“Give me a gift?” I questioned.
“Yeah.” He glanced at his watch. “I was afraid I’d miss it, but I still have fifteen minutes.”
I cocked my head to the side. Did he really think he could go out and pick up some whore and then…I couldn’t even bring myself to think it.
“I had to work tonight. I came over here as soon as I got off.” I’m sure he got off all right.
“You are such a liar.” I scoffed and shook my head. “I don’t know why you are here, but you can go.”
“I understand why you’re mad. And I deserve that, but I’ve never lied to you, Miranda.”

Chasing Each Other is a dark and emotional romance, telling us the story of Miranda and Brad.
From the moment these two met, a powerful attraction was created and we’ve got their story through dual POV. This book was written in a very intimate way, alternating the thoughts of each protagonist.Miranda is a young woman with a dark past, leaving her shattered and broken. She has also with a big crush on her foster best friend’s brother (Brad).
The shadows of her past were still tormenting her; her flaws couldn’t be shown to anyone; too ashamed of who she was; trying so hard to fight her dark addiction. She used to be the carefree and joyful one. Two years with her ex boyfriend utterly broke her soul and destroyed everything she was.
Her feelings for Brad, a man too perfect and unattainable were increasing ; and the age difference added also a huge gap. She was confused by his attentions and thought that she couldn’t catch his attention, be someone worthy to be loved.Brad is a detective, married to his job and having only one night stands. When he met Miranda, he saw her pain and he was already hooked and drawn to her. Each time he saw her increasing his feelings for someone who was off-limits. Miranda awaken feelings he has never felt before; jealousy and a need to protect her.
This guy was so amazing with her and his family. He wanted to protect what’s his, even of he was struggling with these overwhelming feelings, pull and undeniable connection.
Their age difference was a huge issue to him.

The more they spent time together and the more each other wanted to peel off all the layers, especially Brad; who sensed that she was hiding something. He was persistent but giving her time for revealing the truth. I appreciated Brad’s protective side and how he helped Miranda to find her old self. I wanted all along the story to get them together; they were so complimentary and belonged together. I was frustrated at Brad’s stubbornness when it comes to their age difference and impressed by Miranda’s fight against her addictions. She went through a lot and reading about her flaws and sorrows made her so much real and so heartbreaking!

As the story unfolds, I wanted to know more about Miranda’s secret and how things ended left rather unsatisfied; I think it needed more deepening. However, I enjoyed how they were constantly chasing each other, Brad has definitely some book boyfriend material!
J.D Riviera wrote an amazing romance with a hint of suspense and strong heroes ; a female character as a survivor and an alpha but sweet male character.
