More about Emma Chase :

Summary:

A Washington, DC, defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing—with his southern drawl, disarming smile, and captivating green eyes, he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him, and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.

Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.

Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart, the mother of his beloved ten-year-old daughter. Jenny is getting married—to someone who isn’t him.

That’s definitely not part of the plan.

Sofia Santos is a city-raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.

But when Stanton, her “friend with mind-blowing benefits,” begs her for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi, to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves. Her head tells her she’s crazy…and her heart says something else entirely.

What happens when you mix a one-stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage, and a gun-toting Nana?

The Bourbon flows, passions rise, and even the best-laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

When you start reading Emma Chase’s book, you know that you’re gonna be entertained.
I always have that impression since her first book, that each time I read one, it was like I was watching a movie! This one wasn’t an exception.
For this new series, let’s step into the world of high-powered attorneys.
So, who’s gonna be the sexy alpha beast hero?

Stanton Shaw, southern handsome man and Jury Charmer. This story is told part time from his POV, and all I can say, that’s it’s rhythmed from the beginning to the end!
Sweet southern boy in this youth, his went through a lot of things and became a father very young and seemed to have feelings for his high school sweetheart, even they weren’t together anymore. Complicated situation.
His past experiences made him the man he became today, full of confidence, enjoying life.
Hot attorney, with irrefutable arguments, sharp questions, he’s the Jury Charmer.
Then, who’s gonna be his match?

Sofia Santos, city raised-woman, smoking sexy woman who totally makes Stanton crazy. She’s confident, very tough but at the same time very vulnerable. She’s feisty, owned her ambitions and sexuality. As you might guess, their chemistry was off the charts and became « friends with mind-blowing benefits ».
She had plans and didn’t have time to be in a relationship. She accepted the « agreement » she had with him until now.

Between the two of them, best friends with mind-blowing benefits, they were sometimes not on the same page. Sofia was getting more than attached to him, and he was unavailable emotionally. But the two of them in the bedroom were more than explosive, and our Stanton here has not only a ways with words but knew definitely how to have his ways with women!
But when Stanton received an invitation to the weeding of the mother of his ten year old child, he decided that it was time to win her back, but needed the support of his « friend with mind-blowing benefits ». So Sofia was getting into his crazy plan to cancel the weeding.
Add a hint of a crazy family, Bourbon, a lot of southern charm, plenty of mixed feelings, sexual and hot tension, few old friends and you’re all set! Welcome to the southern charm!!!
So how this trip’s gonna end?

Full of pitfalls, a lot of denial feelings, and sometimes Stanton was so blind, totally in denial, and I wanted to shake him so many times that I lost count…so frustrating but I think the southern charm was definitely magic!!
I enjoyed Sofia’s character, but I though she was too kind with Stanton and I wanted her to kick his ass (damn his stubborn side!).But Stanton was also one of his best friends so I could understand the choices she made even if I didn’t not always agree with that. I loved how the hero didn’t fall on her foot. I hurt for Sofia because some parts weren’t easy and it broke my heart to read what Stanton said to her. Damn he was so oblivious and didn’t use his words thoughtfully with her. (for an attorney, it was pretty bad)
This story was full of charm, very dizzy, with full of colors. Just say that Emma Chase had ways with words, and she created a great new series, with again a strong male character taking the wrong way to be with the woman he loves and it was really fun! Don’t forget the secondary characters, because they were awesome too and Bourbon!
I really loved how she could write such great and very hilarious characters, so high five!!
Can’t wait for the other books, because Stanton has some of few interesting friends out there! By the way, there were some references to the Tangled series, very appreciated!!

Some priceless quotes :
« Can I be Thor? I always liked the hammer. »
‘« Just sit back down, Sofia. This is a man thing – You wouldn’t understand. »
As soon the words are past my lips, I know they were the wrong ones to say.
Her eyes go wide, then narrow. She folds her arms and takes deliberate steps toward us. It’s her court stance, defense attorney mode – and it’s sexy as fuck.
« I’m sorry, » she says, not sounding sorry at all « Did you just say ‘It’s a maaan thang?’ »’
« My first thought is: thank fuck she’s safe. My second thought is: I’m going to strangle her. »
« Most stories finish at the end. But not this one. This one finishes with a whole new beginning. »
