Twenty-year-old Clementine Avery doesn’t mind being called bitchy and closed off. It’s safe, and after being burned by her high school sweetheart and stalked by a professor her freshman year of college, safe sounds pretty damn good.
Her number one rule for survival? No dating. That is until she accidentally signs up for a romance writing class and needs material for her latest assignment. Sexy RA Gavin Murphy is more than happy to play the part of book boyfriend to help Clem find some inspiration, even if that means making out…in the name of research, of course.
As Gavin and Clem grow closer, they get entangled in the mystery surrounding a missing Boston University student, and Clem unwittingly becomes a possible target. Gavin tries to show Clem she can handle falling in love again, but she knows she has to be careful because her heart’s at stake…and maybe even her life.
DEAREST CLEMENTINE is a stand-alone novel with two companion novels. This New Adult romance is recommended for readers 18+ due to mature content.
How can I say no to that story? An inspiring writer and a aspiring reporter and part time musician as main characters and some mystery? I was so eager to read it!
This one is emotionally charged, with the Clementine’s deepest wounds and her fight to heal from all things that happened in her past, between her ex, her family and with some stalker from her past.
I really liked the story, from the beginning to the end.
Clementine was crossing the relationship in her life, no more dating ever! She had the reputation to be not the kind to date girl, unattainable. She was feisty, with no filter kind of girl, very straightforward and completely confined to her bubble when she was writing.
When she accidentally signed up for the wrong class, she had to overcome some of her issues, and she needed material for her last assignment.
Gavin was all intense/sexy RA and cool guy, and completely at her disposal for every research she needed. (You can me darling too by the way)
“God, you make me hot when you talk grammar.”
But with Clementine’s walls, it wasn’t easy for Gavin to be close to her. She didn’t let people in easily and we understood how she became this girl who put everyone at distance.
Little by little, he broke down the walls and they became friends, then friends who kissed each other.
Even if he tried to show her that she could fall in love again, things from her past got along the way and with Gavin’s investigation, things were a little messed up.
“I’m tired of being so closed off. It hasn’t made me any stronger or braver. It hasn’t imparted any wisdom or comfort. It has just made me lonely.”
I really enjoyed the parts focusing on Clementine and Gavin’s relationship, these two made me smile, laugh and their were so great together. Gavin was so caring, patient, protective and so hot (he can definitely kiss). He could read Clementine like no one else, with a disconcerting ease.
“Ruin what?” He brushes the hair away from my eyes. “I might never be able to date another man.” He leans over and grazes my earlobe with his teeth, sending warm shivers down my arms. “That’s the plan.”
Their dynamic was great with some steamy hot kissing parts. Clementine was maybe a victim in her past, but she was an incredible fighter and I loved that side of her character.
This story was very enthralling, heart racing with fabulous and endearing characters. Gavin was so swoony over, sweet and totally crazy in love with her.
Clementine was so easily to like, she had a great personality, even a little hot tempered, but a great friend! I wanted to warn you that a lot was going on in that story and sometimes things could be overshadowed, but the author succeeded to catch my attention until the end. It was a little predictable but it worked for me.
It was definitely a great book and I’m sure to read all the series!
